MTCC cautions of fake RTL smart card scam

MTCC stated that a fraudulent Facebook page named "Maldives Public Transport" is advertising a smart card that supposedly allows free travel on RTL services for three months after purchase.

MTCC has issued a warning to customers about a scam circulating on Facebook that falsely claims to sell a "smart card" which allows free travel through RTL.

In a press release, the company stated that a fraudulent Facebook page named "Maldives Public Transport" is advertising a smart card that supposedly allows free travel on RTL services for three months after purchase.

MTCC said that neither the company nor its subsidiary, RTL, has any connection to this page or the offer being promoted.

The company emphasized that any new services or products introduced by MTCC will always be officially announced through its offcial social media accounts and media channels.

“With scams on the rise, customers are urged to be cautious of links shared by unauthorized entities claiming to represent MTCC or RTL and to avoid any financial transactions with such sources,” the statement read.

MTCC condemned the misuse of public trust and warned that fraudulent activities have become increasingly common in Maldives in recent years.

MTCC’s RTL network operates bus services in Male' and several islands, along with speed ferry services in the northernmost and southernmost atolls of Maldives.
