A man has been arrested for vandalizing Furugan Mosque and property in it, including discarding on the floor Quran mushafs kept on shelves there.

Police stated that Naushad Moosa, 30, of G. Male' Hiyaa has been arrested in the case.

When presented in court, Moosa has been placed in remand in custody for a period of 15 days.

The mosque was vandalized on Saturday.

Sheikh Adam Nishan, who frequents the mosque for prayers, said in a post of Facebook today that the mushafs had been thrown around on the floor, and the electrical outlets and adapters at the Imam's minbar had also been damaged.

Taps in the ablution area had also been broken off, with other objects in the mosque facing similar damage.

He claims that similar damage has been caused on several instances previously as well, with reports having been lodged with the police to no avail.
