Police said they are investigating Zakiyya's death and that a team of officers are active on the island.
Investigation into the death of Zakiyya Moosa, who was found with severe injuries including a slashed throat outside her home in Noonu atoll Holhudhoo is ongoing and a team of investigators are still on the island, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau said today.
Zakiyya's body was discovered on 10th September, outside her home's kitchen area, towards a storage space. So far, authorities have not declared it a murder, and no arrests have been made in connection to the case.
Zakiyya's body was discovered by municipal workers who had gone to collect garbage from the house. Those who saw the 50 year old's body said her throat was slashed so deep that her head was almost entirely severed, with a knife lying next to her. Many islanders question the possibility of the injuries being self inflicted, as speculated by some.
More than two months after Zakiyya's death, residents of Holhudhoo took to the streets on Monday, demanding justice for her.
Commissioner of Police Shujau told Mihaaru News that police have been investigating the case since it was initially reported and that an investigation team are still active on the island.
He also assured that their goal is to complete investigations as soon as possible and said a lot was achieved in the past two months, including verifying any information received or heard regarding the case.
"Police will reveal information regarding this very soon," Shujau said.
Zakiyya is survived by her husband and two sons. One son lives in Male', while the other lives in the same house with his wife and child.
