Late last night, Police conducted the search and seized some items, Mihaaru News reports, including an unknown amount of cash.
Mihaaru News cites a source as saying that MVR 530,000 was seized from the house. The source said that the cash is connected to an expatriate.
Police have also said last night that they have commenced an investigation into allegations that some Immigration staff having abused their positions to take undue benefits from expatriates.
They said that in a related operation conducted on Wednesday, one residence was searched, and three persons taken into police custody.
Police have not yet officially stated whether there is a connection between Shammaan's dismissal and the investigation. Police have also not commented so far on the search of Shammaan's residence.
After Shammaan's dismissal last night, former Police Commissioner Ahmed Faseeh was appointed as Controller General of Immigration.
The government has not yet officially disclosed reasons behind Shammaan's dismissal.
