A motion has been lodged with the Parliament's National Security Services Committee to investigate whether police and MNDF personnel fulfilled their duties and responsibilities in ensuring the safety of the legislature when responding to the demonstrations and unrest outside the parliament this afternoon.

The motion was submitted by Galolhu North constituency MP Eva Abdulla of The Democrats.

Eva stated that the Constitution mandates that the security of the parliament chambers, grounds and other areas of the premises must be assured by the security forces.

The motion stated that during today's demonstrations, protestors climbed up on the outer walls of the parliament grounds, throwing various objects into the grounds at the members present there. In light of this, the motion has been submitted to the committee to ascertain whether the security services fulfilled their obligations sufficiently.

Protestors gathered outside the parliament premises after opposition parties stated they would not vote in favour of granting parliamentary approval to some ministers of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet.

Besides calling for the resignation of the Parliament Speaker, protestors threw objects at the parliament premises, including eggs and rocks.

Senior officials of the President's Office as well as numerous deputy and state ministers also took part in the protest.
