The government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with New Zealand's University of Auckland to jointly study seabirds and migratory birds in Maldives.

The agreement, signed between the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the University of Auckland, aims to identify critical habitats for these birds, including nesting, roosting, and foraging grounds.

At a ceremony held this afternoon at the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, Minister Thorig Ibrahim signed the agreement on behalf of EPA.

In a post on X, EPA said that the initiative is a significant step in environmental conservation and biodiversity protection in Maldives, and will contribute to the protection of these crucial ecosystems.
