Miuvan Mohamed replaces Mabrook Azeez as the new President's Office spokesperson.

Mohamed took charge of new responsibility after resigning as the Communications Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Azeez reportedly resigned from his held position at the President's Office.

The outgoing spokesperson rose to public prominence as the main voice of the state amid Covid-19 pandemic. Azeez presented formal resignation on Tuesday, August 23, which the President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih accepted on Wednesday, August 24.

President Solih thanked Azeez for his commitment and service to the Maldivian public and as a responsible government sector official.

Azeez made his decision public via Twitter.

"Thank you for all the amazing engagement, and the opportunity to explain the government's stance, even at times when we weren't in agreement," Azeez tweeted, thanking local media.

He also thanked President Solih for entrusting him with carrying the state's message to the public.

"The office has been a place of growth and many invaluable experiences I will carry with me for the rest of my life," he added.

Azeez, who started off as prominent political member in Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ascended to the Under Secretary of Communications Department, President's Office in July 2019.

The outgoing spokesperson received public appreciation and widespread recognition for his diligence and professional conduct at press briefings.

Azeez's replacement, Miuvan is the third official spokesperson during President Solih's administration.
