Maldives and China have signed an agreement to facilitate the export of Maldivian fish products to the Chinese market under the China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
The agreement was signed with Beijing’s Xinguang Show Commercial Management Company to export fish products from Ensis Pvt Ltd.
The signing ceremony was attended by Maldives Ambassador to China, Dr Fazeel Najib, and State Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Dr Amzath Ahmed.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, this marks a significant milestone for the Maldivian fisheries sector.

Under the FTA, which came into effect this year, all Maldivian fish exports to China will be exempt from import duties, including:
- Fresh, chilled, and frozen Skipjack Tuna
- Various types of Grouper and Tuna
- Canned fish, smoked fish, salted fish, and other seafood products
Additionally, over 7,000 Maldivian products will be exported to China at 0 percent duty.
The government expects this agreement to boost bilateral trade between Maldives and China, increasing total trade volume to USD 1 billion.
