Inflation rate in atolls rise from 0.8 to 4.3 percent

Inflation rate in the atolls have gone up from 0.8 percent to 4.3 percent.

Statistics from central bank Maldives Monetary Authority indicate that the inflation rose the highest in November last year. Inflation in November was at 4.3 percent, while the previous month it was at 0.8 percent, marking an increase of 3.5 percent.

In general, prices in the atolls are higher than that in capital Male'. Last November, inflation in the Male' area was at 3.9 percent.

The highest price hike was in rent and restaurant prices. Inflation of these was at 27.5 percent. This is a 27 percent increase from the previous month. In October, rent and restaurant prices was at 0.1 percent.

Currently, inflation of the price of food products in the atolls is at 3.5 percent.

Prices have also spiked of health services, transport, fish products, education, electricity and water in the atolls. However, inflation decreased on communication services and household appliances.

Prior to November last year, the highest inflation in 2024 was seen in January, at 1.3 percent. Compared to January, there was a 70 percent increase in November.
