More than seven kilograms of suspected drugs were seized during the operation.
Police have released the identities of the 10 individuals arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into Maldives via sea.
The arrests were made in a joint operation by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Customs, and the police, following a search of a vessel in the Male' area just after midnight on Friday.
More than seven kilograms of suspected drugs were seized during the operation.
The arrested individuals include seven Indian nationals and three Indonesians:
- Nasvan Aadil, 30, Indonesia
- Adriansaya, 25, Indonesia
- Mohamed Iqbal Makroom, 30, Indonesia
- Prabhakaran Nagarajan, 35, India
- Romans Santhiya Fernando, 58, India
- Ganesh Bommaalee, 22, India
- Dathukile Darshan Vijay, 22, India
- Peter Winnie, 28, India
- Saran Padman, 28, India
- Gosik Raj James Knox, 30, India
Five of them were remanded for five days, while the other five were held for one day. Those who were initially given a one day remand were produced in court, with one given a three-day extension, while four others had their remand extended to 15 days, police said.
