The family of the Maldivian man, Ahmed Usaid, who went missing in Malaysia, has said today that he is currently in police custody in Malaysia.
Usaid was reported missing to police last Sunday. His father, Ibrahim Afeef, said in a Facebook post that Usaid was last spotted at around 3:15pm on Sunday.
Afeef said that they have now learned that Usaid is in police custody. Family are also now at the Police Station in Malaysia after being summoned, he said.
A person close to the case told Mihaaru News that a hotel in Malaysia had informed Police after they had spotted Usaid.
His father has previously said that CCTV footage showed Usaid as having visited the Maldives Embassy in Malaysia on Sunday at around 4pm. This was his last confirmed sighting.
He said that as Sunday was a holiday, Usaid had waited at the embassy for about an hour but had then left after failing to meet any embassy officials. He had left behind his wallet and student card at the embassy. The embassy had later returned the items to family.
