The government has handed over 57 additional land plots from Hulhumalé Phase 2 to Malé City residents this week under the Binveriyaa Scheme, totalling the number of plots handed out to 538.

Housing Ministry on Wednesday said that 45 plots which were not previously not handed over to the owners were given out on Wednesday. With this, 57 plots were issued this week, the Ministry said.

According to plans made during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, a total of 1,000 plots are to be handed out from the island under the Binveriyaa Scheme. With this, a total of 9,000 plots were decided to be given to Malé citizens including those from Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu.

Additionally, plots will also be issued from Hulhumalé Phase 3, which is currently under reclamation after a brief pause, in line with a directive issued by Environmental Protection Agency (HPA) due to coral bleaching in the country.

In a recent budget review report by Auditor General's Office (AGO), Housing Development Corporation (HDC) will incur a loss of MVR 10.5 billion due to the free lands being issued from Hulhumalé under the Binveriyaa Scheme.
