National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that they had received reports of flooding due to heavy rain and swell waves from six islands, and MNDF is now providing assistance.
As per the NDMA, of the six islands, the island which has been caused the highest damage due to swell waves is Shaviyani atoll Narudhoo. The other islands include Faafu atoll Nilandhoo, Faafu atoll Magoodhoo, Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo, Dhaalu atoll Meedhoo.
They further said that there have not been any incidences so far where shelter or humanitarian aid has been needed to be provided.
Narudhoo Council President Mohamed Mustharsid said that a large part of the island has been flooded due to swell waves, with water having flooded into 12 residences.
He said that household items, as well as plants have been damaged in the floods.
He said that while the country does get affected by swell waves in this monsoon previously as well, the damage is higher this time due to the lack of a seawall outside the harbour.
MET Office has previously said that these adverse weather conditions will last through Sunday.
