A speedboat carrying 48 persons, including children, capsized and sank this morning.
Police said that they had received reports of a speedboat called 'Huvan' travelling from ADh. Dhigurah to Male' sinking at around 7:57am.
The boat was carrying three crew members and 45 passengers. This included four children.
All aboard have now been rescued, Police said. They have since been returned to Dhigurah. Police said that there are no injuries.
Police said that the boat sank between ADh Dhigurah and Mahibadhoo. Photos shared by police show the passengers in the sea, wearing life vests.
MET Office has predicted rain across the Maldives today as well, with heavy downpours and thunderstorms expected in some islands. Seas are expected to be moderately rough, with rougher intervals during squalls.
Even at present, MET Office has issued a Yellow Alert from Haa Alif atoll to Meemu atoll.
