Bank of Maldives (BML), on Tuesday, opened applications for proposals in the sixth round of it's 'Aharenge Bank' Community Fund, a nationwide campaign to empower individuals to contribute to society by conducting sustainable community projects.

"Even during these pressing times with COVID-19, one of our main objectives is to increase the bank's connection with the Maldivian community", said BML's Manager of Public Relations Mohamed Saeed.

BML selects and allocates MVR 50,000 to five projects in the areas of education, environment, sports and community development under the Aharenge Bank Community Fund.

For 2020, BML will select 20 projects across three proposal phases, and has set the phase two deadline for September 9.

The bank has already awarded five projects in its first phase, including projects to develop an outdoor gym in Vilufushi, Thaa Atoll.

In 2019, BML contributed MVR 1 million to support projects in 20 islands, including the Nellaidhoo Community Park, refurbishment of the library in Maaenboodhoo, Dhaalu Atoll, a children's park in Kihaadhoo, Baa Atoll and a classroom for Special Education Needs (SEN) students in Gaafaru, Kaafu Atoll.
