MVR 261,000 is being spent each month to cover the salaries of eight consultants hired by the Male' City Council (MCC), Mihaaru News reports.
Speaking at this year's Decentralization Conference held by Maldivian Democratic Party, Male' Mayor Adam Azim had disclosed that 15 consultants were being hired by MCC to assist in various capacities. He said then that all these consultants are members of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party, which he, too, is a member of.
Following this, Mihaaru submitted a Right To Information (RTI) request seeking details about these hires.
The council responded stating that as of now, the council has hired 8 consultants.
Without including overtime allowance, MVR 261,000 is spent on their salaries each month, the council said.
1. Mohamed Shahid, Financial Consultant - MVR 35,000
2. Habeeb Zahir, Report Writing Consultant - MVR 35,000
3. Mohamed Shareef, Civil Engineer Consultant - MVR 35,000
4. Mohamed Shihab, Social Welfare Consultant - MVR 35,000
5. Yameen Mohamed, Information Technology Consultant - MVR 35,000
6. Ramzy Abu Bakuru, Management Consultant - MVR 30,000
7. Mariyam Nazima, Administrative Consultant - MVR 28,000
8. Ali Khalid, Media Executive - MVR 28,000
Of these, Shihab was a former State Minister at Gender Ministry, Ramzy the former General Manager of MTCC, Nazima a former Deputy Minister at Economic Ministry, and Khalid, the former Managing Director of PSM.
The council did not provide details of the roles and responsibilities of these consultants.
