Following Civil Service Commission's (CSC) decision to cut the cemetery allowance for congregants, Male' City Council (MCC) has decided to continue the payments from its own budget.
Previously, congregants received an additional MVR 1,500 on top of their salaries. The CSC announced the cut in a circular sent to all city, atoll, and island councils last Thursday, although no reason was provided.
However, the commission stated that councils could continue the allowance based on public finance regulations and their financial capacity.

At yesterday’s council meeting, all members unanimously approved the proposal.
Galolhu South Constituency Councilor Mohamed Saif Fathih highlighted the financial difficulties this would cause, especially during Ramadan. The council also agreed to formally request the CSC for an explanation regarding the decision.
