With no resolution having been found as of yet to the continued power interruptions in the connected islands of Addu City, Fenaka has said that a 1.8 MW generator has been sent to Addu once again.
'We are working on sending the generator to Addu tonight. This is the third generator being sent to Addu over the last three months. The two generators sent before have been installed and are in use," Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Najah said last night.
Addu has been facing continued power cuts for over six months now, with no permanent resolution found to date. Monday, too, saw powercuts at various intervals across the islands.
Najah said that Monday's powercuts were due to a technical error faced by one generator, followed by damage to a second generator while the first one was being fixed.
'So, we were forced to disconnect electricity. But, one of the two generators which had technical issues has now been fixed, with electricity provided [last night]. The other generator is also in the process of being fixed," he said.
Although the government previously pledged to resolve the electricity issues faced by Addu ahead of Ramadan, Najah said this did not work out because major repairs are needed for the generators and with it being Ramadan, there is a regular 'overload' during the evenings.
He said that he believes a medium term solution can be brought soon.
