Heavy rains in the central Maldives have caused flooding in Kaafu atoll Maafushi, a popular local tourism hotspot.
Maafushi Council initiated water-draining efforts by creating a makeshift channel to divert floodwaters from the roads into the sea.
Following their initial actions, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) began using pumps to expedite the drainage process.
A person speaking from Maafushi said that the flooding has disrupted some local tourism businesses as well.
Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a white alert for areas spanning from Shaviyani atoll to Faafu atoll. These regions are expected to face heavy rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 mph.
The current weather conditions are anticipated to improve by the middle of next week.
