The condition of the 31-year-old couple from Alifu Alifu Rasdhoo, who suffered severe burns in a house fire, has deteriorated, with doctors expressing little hope for their survival, according to a family member.
Mihaaru News reports that while their room was not severely burned, with only a curtain catching fire, the couple sustained 80-90 percent burns. The cause of the fire remains unclear.
The couple, initially treated in Rasdhoo, was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male'.
The woman is currently on a ventilator in the ICU, while the man, initially treated in the emergency room, has also been moved to intensive care.
Family members from Rasdhoo are traveling to Male' following the doctors prognosis. The couple has a five-year-old child.
Police are investigating the incident, although no official statement has been released.
