Saudi firm to build 500 tonne cold storage facility in Meemu atoll Mulah

A Saudi Arabian company has been awarded the contract to build a 500-tonne cold storage facility in Meemu atoll Mulah.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia's ROS for Trading Company to develop the facility, in a ceremony held yesterday.

Director General Enas Naseer signed on behalf of the ministry, while Deputy Director Hamad Mohammed Al-Minhali signed on behalf of ROS for Trading.

The 500-tonne facility will have the capacity to brine-freeze 50 tonnes of fish per day, according to the ministry.

The project, costing USD 5.2 million, includes design and construction, with a 300 day completion timeline.

The Fisheries Ministry noted that the new facility will significantly benefit Meemu atoll’s fishermen, supporting further growth in the fishing industry.
