Judicial Service Commission (JSC), on Thursday, launched investigations into the disciplinary issues of Civil Court Judge Mariyam Waheed and Criminal Court Judge Mohamed Sameer.

According to a statement publicised by the commission, Mariyam Waheed was being investigated over unlawfully discussing a hearing in progress outside of court, and blatantly going against the policy when sentencing a convict.

JSC revealed that Sameer was being investigated over denying the opportunity for a defendant's lawyers to raise their points in a Criminal Court hearing, as well as being biased against the lawyers, and speaking to them condescendingly.

The judicial watchdog, on Wednesday, established a special committee to probe the aforementioned allegations, after which the commission may move to terminate the judges based on the findings of the investigation.
