Dr. Mariyam Zulfa, the former Minister of Tourism, has been officially appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Local Government Authority today.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented the appointment letter to Dr. Zulfa, officially designating her as the leader of the authority established under the Decentralization of Administration Act.
Dr. Zulfa completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Curtin Business School at Curtin University in Australia. She also holds a Masters degree in Public and International Law (LLM) from the University of Melbourne in Australia, as well as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Waikato University in New Zealand.
Serving as the Minister of Tourism under former President Mohamed Nasheed, Dr. Zulfa had been residing abroad following the change of government.
Upon her return to the country, she joined the People's National Congress (PNC). Prior to her recent appointment, Dr. Zulfa served as a board member of the National Parks Advisory Council of the Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action in Melbourne, Australia.
The position of LGA CEO had remained vacant since the resignation of Afshan Latheef on May 18.
