Maldivian Coast Guard, on Thursday, assisted two Sri Lankan vessels lost in Maldivian waters after the ships were spotted by a fishing vessel from near the island of Kumundhoo in the northernmost Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

According to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the boat was caught inside the tropical cyclone 'Burevi', causing the crew to veer off-course.

Authorities were alerted to the discovery at approximately 0833 hrs on Thursday.

MNDF further noted that the vessels were now safely docked at Kulhudhuffushi City in the same atoll.

In response to the currently de-intensifying cyclone Burevi, the Indian Meteorological Department issued red alerts and cyclone warnings for South Tamil Nadu and the southern regions of Kerela.
