Criminal Court has today released one of the suspects accused in assisting to bring out over 4.5kg of drugs from Velana International Airport on April 15.

In today's remand hearing, the Prosecutor General's Office appealed to the Court to place the suspect, Ali Hussain, in custody until the end of trial. However, the Court decided to release him under some conditions.

As one of the reasons for this decision, the Court stated that Hussain does not have a prior criminal record.

PG Office said that in reference to how Ali Hussain had conspired in the accused crime, Police have said that he may pose a danger to society.

They said that the statement shows that Hussain acted without the supervisor's knowledge despite having received instructions ahead of the incident.

However, the Court decided that the State had been unable to justify how Hussain posed a danger to society.

Hussain has been released after placing four conditions. These are:

- To seek authorization from the Court before travelling out of Male'

- To not commit any further offences

- To not communicate with any witnesses

- To attend the court when summoned

While two MACL staff are accused in the crime, one has been previously released in April.

The drugs which were smuggled in included heroin and methamphetamine.
