Thasleem had been part of a group of twenty nine who had gone to the sandbank on August 29 at around sunset to celebrate an engagement and a birthday. He was reported missing at around 13:30 hrs the next day.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had coordinated with the Coast Guard and snorkeled a total area of 943,998 sqft from August 31 until September 6 to comb the area for a trace of the missing man. They searched 5000 sqft around the sand bank and 3000 sqft under water as well.
Thasleem's whereabouts remain unknown even after additional efforts to locate him by searching locations he had reportedly frequented in Male', police added.
MNDF said that as it remains unclear that Thasleem had gone missing at sea, the search for him is being led by Maldives Police Service.
Police said that Interpol has issued the Yellow Notice on September 12. They said that Interpol notices will be viewed in all member countries and not published publicly on their website.
Yellow Notice is an international plea for information and assistance in search of missing and forcefully disappeared persons. The last Yellow Notice issued for a Maldivian was in the case of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla.
Thasleem's case is being investigated as a criminal case due to questionable circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
Police earlier said that Thasleem had joined the trip as an acquaintance of the trip organizers to oversee the backdrop and electrical lighting work of the celebration. The investigation received information that Thasleem had joined the trip and was with participants until 00:00 hrs that night, revealed the police, adding that Thasleem was spotted sleeping in the tent area after 00:00 hrs that night according to eye witness reports and photos taken during the trip.
He was last seen on the sandbank between 07:45 hrs and 09:00 hrs in the morning of the day he was reported missing. Police elaborated that he had expressed he wanted to return to Male' and that participants of the trip had contacted Thasleem's family to clarify if he had boarded a vessel en route to the city after they failed to locate him to join a speedboat scheduled to leave between 10:00 and 11:00 hrs that morning.
