ADK hospital has cautioned the public against scam messages being circulated in the hospital's name.

In a social media post by the hospital, ADK said that they have become aware of a malicious scam message being circulated through their official SMS handle.

"Please do not click on any links or provide any personal information in response to these messages. This is a fraudulent attempt to steal your sensitive data. We are actively working to resolve this issue," the hospital wrote.

Mihaaru News has received screenshots of some of the messages sent via the handle. Some of the messages were made to appear like they were from Maldives Post Office, despite being sent from the ADK handle.

The message reads that the recipient's packages have arrived via post, but that delivery is unavailable due to unpaid customs fees. The message has an attached link asking for payment.

Cases of fraud and extortion have increased dramatically in recent days.

From the end of last year to the beginning of this year alone, 28,000 scam-related cases were reported with MVR 27 million missing. Of this, MVR one million has been recovered so far.

Scams have become a major national issue and authorities say steps are being taken to address the matter.
