Nihad was suspended in December for stating in a speech at a ruling People's National Congress (PNC) rally that the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was planning a terrorist attack while Maldives was about to welcome its 2 millionth tourist during the month.
Nihad was suspended for making such comments while serving in a senior government post.
Finance Ministry said that Nihad had been appointed as State Minister at the ministry last Thursday, and has begun reporting to work effective Sunday.
There is strong criticism on social media against Nihad's appointment to the Finance Ministry now after his previous actions.
MDP also released a statement at the time voicing concern over Nihad's allegations. MDP called on authorities then to ensure the safety and protection of all tourism service providers in relation to Nihad's remarks.
Nihad was earlier a member of MDP before he joined PNC in December last year. He was appointed as a State Minister at the Tourism Ministry in July.
