President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fuad Thaufeeq as the Maldivian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand today.
President Muizzu presented Fuad Thaufeeq with his credentials during a ceremony held this morning at the President's Office.
Parliament had approved Fuad's appointment to the post on December 9.
Fuad’s term as EC President expired on November 23, and his name was submitted to Parliament for consideration as Maldives Ambassador to Thailand on November 25.
Fuad stepped down from the Elections Commission after completing the maximum of two terms. The law limits members to a maximum of two terms.
With extensive experience in elections since 1978, Fuad has played a key role in various elections held in Maldives.
Following the adoption of the new constitution, he was first a member of the Transitional Commission before serving as President of the Election Commission. Fuad held the presidency from November 2009 to March 2014, and was re-elected to the commission for a second term in September 2021.
