Managing Director of State Trading Organization (STO) Hussain Amru has decided to support Speaker Mohamed Nasheed in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential primary.
Amru accompanied Nasheed today on his campaign trail to Huvadhoo atoll (Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu atolls). The campaign is scheduled to continue for three days. Amru hails from Huvadhoo atoll.
Amru, who had been the CEO of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) during the Nasheed administration, was also the chairman of the MDP policy committee. He has been involved in political activities with Nasheed for a long time.
Amru had also contested the 2014 parliamentary elections from Thinadhoo constituency.
While MDP primary elections is scheduled for January 28, Nasheed and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih are contesting the primary for the party's presidential ticket.
Speaker Nasheed had said that he will win the party's elections and win the the presidential election for the party. President Solih who is also on his campaign trail has said that he is confident of winning MDP's primary.
57,255 MDP members are eligible to vote in the party's primary election.
