The event which began at 08:00 hrs today, will run until 18:00 hrs and involves 75 officials from the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology to collect biometric data from foreign workers in the education sector and employees at major companies.
A major event under the government initiative Operation Kurangi to collect the biometric data of expatriates living in the country has begun this morning.
The event which began at 08:00 hrs today, will run until 18:00 hrs and involves 75 officials from the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology to collect biometric data from foreign workers in the education sector and employees at major companies.
In addition to Male', the data collection will also take place in Thilafushi and Gulhi Falhu.
Launched on May 2, Operation Kurangi is part of efforts to regularize the status of illegal expatriates by collecting biometric data from all foreign nationals in the country. Since the operation's inception, the biometric data of 24,028 expatriates have been collected across 185 islands, with work completed on 55 islands.
The Ministry of Homeland, along with the police and Immigration, are coordinating efforts to address the issue of illegal immigration. Over 5,000 illegal expatriates have already been deported through joint operations by these agencies.
