Maldives Police Service has sent a summons for two key individuals involved in the nightly protests organised by opposition party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Malé City.
MDP started the protests claiming unfair removal of names from the revised Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme's eligibility list.
Following the protests, police sent a summons to former Makunudhoo MP Mohamed Raai and former Managing Director of Road Development Corporation (RDC) Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey).
The notice requires them to appear before Galolhu police station tomorrow afternoon for violating the Peaceful Assembly Act.
They are alleged to have disrupted public transport, businesses and interfered with police duty by gathering in the streets, making noise and protesting in violation of the law.
Raai and Mookey are key people in the protests, speaking on mega phones and leading protestors on the streets.
On Tuesday night, MDP protested along Alikilegefaanu Magu attempting to go near the President's residence, Muliaage. Clashes broke out between police and protesters after officers obstructed the protestors and the eventual use of force.
Two individuals were also arrested from the protests last night. However, both people were released later on.
