Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has launched an operation to check sea vessels. The operation coincides with the school holidays.
MNDF Malé Area Coast Guard 2nd Squadron is conducting the special operation to ensure the safety of the public as many people travel by sea during the school holidays.
The operation dubbed "Ops Halha", will check whether vehicles meet the requirements of the safety certificate and necessary measures have been taken for the safety and security of the vessel and passengers, MNDF said.
“These include marine VHF checks and ensuring that the captain of the vessels is in possession of a marine driving licence, as well as a host of other safety and security checks for passengers,” MNDF said.
The operation, which began last Friday, will continue until January 8.
MNDF has been conducting vessel check operations every year during the school holidays.
