Vice President Faisal Naseem on Sunday discussed safety during sea transportation with institutional representatives.
The meeting, held at the President’s Office, was attended by senior officials from Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Coast Guard.
According to the President's Office, the meeting mainly focused on finding additional ways to ensure marine safety during transportation of residents and cargo. Points of discussion included necessary changes to rules and regulations, an early alert system in case of an incident, awareness campaigns, and operation of small marine vessels.
The VP and officials also spoke of measures to ensure that all rules and regulations are fully adopted and executed by transporters, and incorporating island and atoll councils in monitoring the implementation process.
They further discussed re-convening the National Search and Rescue Committee to address such issues.
