Woman arrested with 14kg of drugs

Authorities arrested a woman in Hulhumalé with 14 kilograms of drugs.

According to Maldives Police Service, the discovery was made last Wednesday in a Hulhumalé Phase 1 apartment after a search was conducted there.

A 23 year old woman identified as Mariyam Zeena was arrested in connection to the alleged crime and was remanded for 15 days citing there was some degree of proof and evidence against her.

The remand order detailed that Zeena was arrested while in a taxi, and that she threw seven packets of what is believed to be drugs onto the car seat. The rest of the drugs were found in her apartment after using the access keycard and key tag found on her person to enter her apartment.

Zeena denied the allegations during her remand hearing. She claimed her apartment was accessible to other people as well.

In a separate incident on the same day, several people were also arrested on drug related allegations in Hulhumalé Phase 2.

During the search of an apartment in Tower 9 of the Hiyaa Flat, a can and five rubber packets containing a substance believed to be drugs and a 500 ml bottle containing suspected alcohol were found.

Three individuals from L. Gan were arrested in connection the alleged crime - Mohamed Rishfan, 28, Hussain Shiyan, 23 and Hawwa Simaanaa, 29.

The two men were remanded for 15 days and the woman for five days.
