STO is a state owned enterprise.
State Trading Organisation (STO) said the company will stock some 24 products across four categories next week at special discounted prices for Ramadan.
The company said today that it places great importance to ensuring easy accessibility of goods during Ramadan, with basic food items, vegetables, fruits, processed foods and cooking utensils to be imported and stocked.
As in previous years, eggs, potatoes, onions, coconuts and dates will also be available in the market as basic food items.
1. Basic food: onions, eggs, potatoes, coconuts, dates
2. Vegetables and fruits: garlic, ginger, lime, carrots, oranges, cabbage, chilli, guava, watermon, mangoes, passionfruit, cucumber
3. Processed foods: Nestlé cream, cocoa powder, baked beans, condensed milk
4. Cooking Ingredients: Sun flower oil, Vegetable oil, Basmati rice
According to STO, priority will be given to items that are expected to go up in price during Ramadan. If the price of a basic commodity goes to unreasonable rates, prices would be controlled by STO with the Economic Ministry's advice, the company said.
STO also said that its aim is to provide goods in line with demand and avoid a supply gap in the market so that the public does not have to bear the brunt of it.
As such, the state owned enterprise has decided to monitor the market prices on a daily basis and identify the items that are going up in price and take immediate action. STO is also working to arrange for the import of goods to the required quantity in the Maldivian market, and supply them to the areas needed.
