Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has said that the Aa Sahara Cemetery and connected mosque will be in usable condition prior to Ramadan.

The project includes the demolition of the existing building, extending the mosque, construction of the funeral attendees lounge and construction of rooms where funeral rites for the deceased are performed.

Asked about the progress of work on Aa Sahara, the Mayor told Mihaaru that currently, structural work is being conducted. He said the council aims to complete the work as early as possible.

"The contractors who are doing the structural work are saying they will complete the work before next week. With that, we are working to expedite the work with a team from the council and another team working on our own as well. That is to hurry things along," he said.

"By Ramadan, the place will be usable. Even if the work is not entirely complete, we will work to ensure the place is made usable," the Mayor said.

Currently, funerals, funeral prayers and burials are held at Hulhumale' cemetery due to the ongoing renovations at Aa Sahara.
