Minister of Homeland, Security, and Technology Ali Ihusan has said that a large number of police officers will be transferred to various islands this year as the police service expands its presence nationwide.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 38th Initial Training Course held at the police campus in Dhaalu Atoll Vaanee, Minister Ihusan emphasized the challenges of providing police services in a geographically dispersed country like Maldives.

Minister Ihusan spoke about the difficulty of traveling between islands and highlighted the need for police officers to fulfill their duties regardless of personal preferences.

He urged officers to embrace their roles with commitment and strive to enhance the quality of service in every location.

"You don't always get to serve in the most preferred place. However, no matter where the person's duty is, it should be the resolve of every police officer to improve the quality of the service," he said.

As part of the government’s decentralization efforts, police services are being established on islands across the Maldives. The Minister called on officers to address societal issues and work toward creating crime-free communities.

He also encouraged the police to improve their services and highlighted the importance of adhering to the chain of command while also treating the public with kindness.

The government plans to extend police services to all islands under a decentralized system. Over the next five years, efforts will focus on allocating budgets for recruitment and infrastructure development in each region, alongside expanding the neighborhood police concept nationwide.

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau also addressed the graduating officers, urging them to collaborate to address public grievances and build trust in the institution.
