Another drug raid in flat used earlier in kidnapping case

Police have yesterday seized a large amount of cash and drugs and arrested four persons from the Hiyaa Tower flat earlier used in the kidnapping and torture of an individual.

Police have yesterday seized a large amount of cash and drugs and arrested four persons from the Hiyaa Tower flat earlier used in the kidnapping and torture of an individual.

Police said that Hiyaa Tower flat number H9-20-11 had been searched yesterday under a court order.

Last month, a case came to light where a person was being held hostage in this apartment. Police had rescued the individual after his head had been shaved and while the perpetrators had been preparing to cut off the victim's finger. Police conducted a major operation at the time and arrested 12 individuals in the case.

Police said today that based on information received by their Drug Enforcement Department, they had conducted an operation where with a Criminal Court order they had once again searched the apartment. Large amounts of cash and drugs were discovered during this search, and four persons had been arrested.

Police have not so far disclosed the exact amounts of cash and drugs discovered.

The four persons arrested are Ibrahim Shareef, 40, of G. Semitone, Abdulla Hassan, 41, of Ocean Blue, Gaafu Alif atoll Kolamaafushi, Hussain Riyaz, 33, of Irudheymaage, Haa Dhaalu atoll Neykurandhoo, and Abdulla Jameel, 32, of Valuthereyge, Gaafu Alif atoll Dhaandhoo.

Police said that the search had uncovered drugs, equipment used in the packaging of drugs, large amounts of cash and a large number of mobile phones.

Police said that further investigations are being conducted in this case.
