President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to launch air ambulance services in the Maldives in March 2024.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today, Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that the Ministry of Health has submitted a paper regarding the introduction and operation of air ambulance services in the Maldives.
The Cabinet has discussed the matter and decided to introduce the service from March 1, Nazim said.
"To prepare for the service, two air ambulances will be arranged, and we will work with Maldivian to make this service available to the people in collaboration with Health," he said.
Nazim said the two air ambulances to ferry patients will have stretchers and facilities. Although the service will begin with two flights, it will be extended later," he said.
Nazim said the project will be implemented by the department already designated to provide ambulance services in the Health Ministry.
Introduction of an air ambulance service is one of the pledges outlined in the first 100 days roadmap of the current administration.
