Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has suspended Deputy Director Hassan Manik following allegations of misappropriating approximately MVR 1 million in funds.
The executive committee of ACC's recreation club reported discrepancies following an audit of the club. Hassan is currently serving his second year as the recreation club's president.
In a statement, ACC said the suspension followed a financial audit of the recreation club. The club operates as a financially independent entity, funded by monthly employee contributions of MVR 175 and revenue from the office canteen. The matter has been forwarded to the police, ACC added.
An individual familiar with the incident disclosed that funds raised by employees three to four months ago for a bone marrow transplant for a colleague are unaccounted for.
"A portion of the money collected for the Gaza Fund was also used. The audit so far has revealed that over MVR 900,000 is missing," the source said.
Hassan, who joined the ACC in 2007, is also the media official of the commission.
