The Maldives government has entered into a maritime security agreement with the United Kingdom.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula on behalf of the Maldivian government and Baroness Charlotte Vere, UK’s Minister for Aviation, Maritime, and Security on behalf of the UK government.

The memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries on the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code will enhance cooperation and further strengthen the ties between the Maldives and the UK, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Minister Nahula said that the partnership will enhance the development of stronger security policies for marine transport and enforce stricter safety measures in international harbors. She emphasized that the agreement enables both nations to cooperate and mutually benefit in formulating marine transport guidelines and policies.

While the Maldives government has entered a maritime security partnership with the UK, the Ministry of Transport is already working on strengthening 14 different policies related to maritime security.
