As per Prosecutor General, Abbas Shareef's orders, the Anti Corruption Commission and Maldives Police Service have launched an expedited criminal investigation into the allocation of flats and land plots.
ACC said that in accordance with the PG's orders, they are collaborating with the Police and conducting a swift investigation.
The PG Office said today that they had received complaints that action had been taken against regulations and policies in the awarding of land plots and flats and in accepting application forms for the two housing schemes.
They said that as this is a matter of major public interest, the PG's stance is that a robust criminal investigation must take place.
Hence, under Article 223 (f) of the Constitution, the PG ordered the Police and ACC to conduct such an investigation. In the instance that charges need to be pressed against any individuals in this matter, the PG instructs them to forward the cases to the office after completing investigations.
The PG instructed for a progress report on the investigations to be shared with him weekly, and to expedite the investigation.
