Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened a temporary Biometric Clinic for Germany-Schengen Visa on Tuesday, marking the second time that Schengen Visa Application Service is provided in Maldives.

The clinic is organised by the Embassy of Germany, in collaboration with the Maldivian government and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

According to the foreign ministry, the clinic will take biometric enrolments and documents from the applicants that made prior bookings. Disclosing that 162 appointments have been book till date, the ministry announced that the clinic's services are being extended to February 6 due to increased demand. Initially the clinic was to be hosted until the 5th.

The ministry stated that the clinic will ease difficulties faced by Maldivians while acquiring visas to travel to Germany, including those participating in the Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin (ITB) Fair next month.

Meanwhile, the administration is working with the German government and VFS Global to establish a permanent Schengen Visa Application Centre in Maldives, slated to commence operations in March 2020.
