In a post on X today, Nareesh said that he had handed in his resignation as he has received the opportunity to serve the nation and its people in another capacity. He did not disclose further details.
In his resignation letter, Nareesh thanked voters and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) leadership who had supported him in being elected for the post.
Nareesh also expressed thanks for the cooperation received from Male' Mayor Adam Azim and council members during his time in office.
