Maldives has announced that it aims to reach 2.2 million tourist arrivals in the year 2025.

According to the data published by the Finance Ministry's 2025 budget, Maldives's tourist arrival target is 2.2, which is a 200,000 increase from this year's goal.

This hike in the target comes as Maldives sets to open a new wing of Velana International Airport (VIA), located in the country's capital.

While Maldives projected that 2 million tourists would arrive in the country this year, the figure stands at 1.6 million so far. This means Maldives needs 400,000 tourist arrivals within the next two months.

So far this year, the most number of inbound tourist to Maldives were recorded from China with over 200,000 tourists. Russia comes in second while the UK accounts for the third most number of tourists.

The Ministry of Tourism has also said it is planning to increase Maldives' tourism promotion next year, aiming to attract visitors from new markets.
