The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) held discussions on Wednesday regarding the possibility of forming a coalition for the second round of the election.

PPM said they have held discussions with Fairs Maumoon’s campaign team, regarding the second round of voting scheduled for September 30.

Faris Maumoon, who is the leader of MRM, contested in the election independently and received 3,190 votes on September 9.

Regarding the meeting, Faris said on X, formerly known as Twitter that MRM met with PPM and People’s National Congress (PNC), to discuss the social, economical, and political changes they want to bring to the Maldives.

Faris expressed his belief in the need to strengthen the nation's democracy and establish justice and harmony.

While eight candidates ran in the election, Malé City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu received over 101,000 votes as the leading candidate. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih followed in second place with over 86,000 votes. Both President Solih and Dr. Muizzu will be contesting in the second round of the election.
