The Attorney General's Office (AG) on Monday revealed the government's decision to propose a merger between Maldives Media Council (MMC) and Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).
Prior to the announcement, the Parliament had previously attempted to revise the law to facilitate a merger, including discussions led by the Parliament Committee on Independent Institutions with senior representatives of news agencies.
According to local media Mihaaru, the findings of the meetings were included in the recommendations forwarded to the AG Office.
Further details of the policy proposals will be disclosed once the bill is submitted to the parliament for deliberation.
The bill is among 19 other policies to be proposed during the Parliament's third and final term, including reforms to the Judicature Act, amendments to the Judges Act, and the Foreign Investment Bill.
In addition to the aforementioned bills, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration will propose policies related to public transportation, food, as well the enaction of an anti-defamation law.
