Biometric data collected of 1,455 expatriates in Male' area

Under 'Operation Kuran'gi', which aims to collect biometric data of all expatriate living in the Maldives, date of 1,455 expatriates were taken in the male' area yesterday.

Under 'Operation Kuran'gi', which aims to collect biometric data of all expatriate living in the Maldives, date of 1,455 expatriates were taken in the male' area yesterday.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan said in a post on X that yesterday saw the commencement of biometric data collection targeted at private and public places in the Male' area.

Ihusan said that fingerprints of all ten fingers as well photos needed for facial recognition were collected yesterday, in the operation which was carried out from 08:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs.

Operation Kuran'gi was launched in May 2024, and will spread over the next three years, expected to conclude in April 2027. On November 17 last year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that by then, information had been collected on 10,000 expatriates. Ihusan said that within the following two months, data was collected on another 15,000 expatriates.

With this, the operation has now collected information on a total of 25,483 expatriates.

While the operation will be carried out in 185 islands, it has now been completed in 55 islands.
