Local and foreign companies can apply to build housing units in 57 islands in the north, south and central Maldives under contractor financing.
These include four categories of housing units. The ministry has also announced the names of islands on which this project will be carried out.
- Less than 50 housing units on 18 islands
- 51-150 housing units on 17 islands
- 200-250 housing units on 10 islands
- over 300 housing units on 12 islands
The lowest number of housing units, at 30 units, is planned for Alif Dhaalu atoll Dhigurah. The highest number of housing units, at 2000 units, will be in Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi.
The government has earlier announced that work on a total of 27,000 housing units will be initiated this year. This includes 15,000 housing units in the Male' area, and 12,000 housing units across the atolls.
